My work has focused on individuals in their environments, studying the way in which they interact with their surroundings, especially when such surroundings have personal meaning to them. My most recent interest is in the art of grooming, not of women but of men. In literature we see emphasis on females who work on their appearances and are a constant source of grooming. On the other hand, men are not portrayed as focusing on their appearances and are associated with limited grooming habits and abilities. This work will go in depth into the lives of specific young adult males, showing the length they go to in order to show themselves a certain way to the world. In other words, this work serves to take the veil away from the idea of machismo and the idea that men cannot focus too much on their appearances for fears of seeming less manly. There will be a greater emphasis on each individual's grooming habits and meaning as to why they choose to groom in a certain way. As a whole, they will come together in order to break into the hard outer shell that males are perceived to have and will provide insight as to men’s thoughts and feelings at the specific age and environment in which they find themselves. This project served as a study of body, hair and the tending which goes into outward appearance.
